EVOL — A Sight For Eyesores
We previous featured German stencil artist EVOL, who turns random street furniture into miniature replicas of the estate where he lives in East Berlin. We posted one of the artist's London street installations in Smithfield Market, which saw him transform a dozen or so concrete barricades into a tower block city complete with satellite dishes, tagged up walls and graffiti.
EVOL is also in London for his first UK solo show which opens tomorrow at Pictures on Walls in Shoreditch. Titled 'A Sight For Eyesores' the artist has brought his work indoors to created a towering cityscape in the POW showrooms using tons of scrap metal!!.
We got the chance to meet EVOL and have a chat with him as he prepared for the show. The artist was busy spraying some of the final layers and details to the imposing towerblock as he spoke to us. We got to see some the mountain of stencils littering the floor of the gallery as some of pieces use up to 15 stencil layers to create the amazing details that gives his work that almost photographic realness! The preview opens tonight and we expect this show will also be busy as we have spotted on Twitter that a crowd of people have starting gathering outside of Pictures On Walls already!
The exhibition runs from the 2 to the 23 of December 2011.
Opening night the 1 December 6pm — 9pm
Pictures On Walls - 46/ 48 Commercial Street - London - E1
