Hookedblog has had a hectic few weeks here of travel and we are still working our way through the large number of photographs we have shot in the last couple of months.

In early August we spent some time in the southeast Irish town of Waterford, for this year's edition of the Irish Street Art Festival Waterford Walls.

Waterford Walls Street Art Festival

The festival is now in its third year and with over 40 international and national street artists it was the largest edition to date. We spent a number of days in the city catching up with some old friends, making many new ones while watching the many artists at work redecorating some of the walls and the derelict building across Waterford city.

We have already shared a number of posts from our Waterford visit including French artist Ador's fun character-based mural next to New Street Gardens; Canadian street artist BirdO's vibrant mural painted across the facade of a row of empty bungalow houses and the striking Electric Fury tiger mural painted by South African artist Sonny.

As already mentioned the artists invited to paint by festival curator Louise Flynn feature a large number of local, national, and international artists. Many of those paintings were artists new to us here at Hookedblog, some we had previously met and others we have featured on the site many times.

One of the artists whose work we were introduced to at the festival was Spanish artist Lula Goce. Based out of Madrid the artist is known for her figurative portraits but on the occasion of the festival, she painted a large floral-themed mural on account of a large number of windows on the building she was painting. The apartment building's many windows would have made painting a figurative mural rather difficult.

Lula also had to deal with the Irish weather, Hurricane Gert hit the country while we were in town and this proved problematic for the artist who was using emulsion house paint for her Waterford mural - at one point the paint was running off the walls as a result of the heavy rains!

Lula fashioned a makeshift poncho from some plastic and continued working during the breaks in the weather. Check out some of our images from the afternoon along with images of the completed mural.
