Impressive 3D Street Art Murals in Antwerp for Tizarte 3D Festival
It was almost a year ago when we visited the Belgian city of Antwerp for the very first time. As with any new destination, we spent a large part of day one and two exploring the new city, checking out the must-see sights, and searching out some of the many street art pieces and murals that are to be found across Antwerp.
As this was Belgium we were of course on a bike, we have mentioned this in previous posts but this country's cities are great for cycling around, with bike lanes making it very easy to get about.
When you are constantly on the lookout for the next photo this is not something we would do in London but in Antwerp, a bike is the best way to get around.
While we were in town we were fortunate enough to meet up with the local street art expert/tour guide and Community Manager for the Street Art Cities app, Tim Marschang. Tim has his finger on the pulse when it comes to Antwerp street art and who better to guide us around the city
It would seem our timing was spot on as our arrival coincided with the second half of the Tizarte 3D Street Art Festival. We had been in Rotterdam checking out another festival and with train travel considerable cheaper than the U.K. and Rotterdam’s proximity to Antwerp we jumped on a train for a return visit.
Tizarte 3D Street Art Festival Artists
For the 2018 edition of Tizarte 3D festival, the invited artists who created new works in various locations in Eilandje included the following:
Matthew Dawn (BE) / Vera Bugatti (IT) / DJOELS (BE) / Muretz (BR) / K.Shit (BE) / CeePil (BE) / Gooze (RU) / WD (GR) / Shozy (RU) / Toon Van Ishoven (BE) / Anmar Mirza (UK)
Have a look at some of the images we captured while we were in town. With all but one of the artists' finished work our photographs include mostly images of the completed works, we have also included a number of images from the first edition of the Tizerate 3D festival which are all still visible in Antwerp.
01. Artist WD (Wild Drawing)
Some impressive work from Athens-based artist WD ( Wild Drawing), although due to some construction work it wasn't so easy to get photos of this piece and involved scaling some stacks of wooden pallets to try and capture a shot of the work.
Location: Rijnkaai 150, 2000 Antwerpen, Belgium
A closer detail shot of the WD ( Wild Drawing) piece created for the Tizarte 3D Street Art Festival.
02. Artist Djoels
Seen from across the harbor this huge new addition to Antwerp is from Belgian graffiti artist and tattooist Djoels. THe is one of the largest murals she has painted to date, see the close-up photo of the work up top. The artist's two large portraits sit next to one of the festivals' other murals painted by English artist Anmar Mirza.
Location: Kattendijkdok-Oostkaai 64, 2000 Antwerpen, Belgium
03. Artist Muretz
Some of our London readers might recognize the work of Brasilian artist Muretz as the artist has some work on Hanbury Street in East London. For his contribution to the Tizarte 3D Street Art Festival, Muretz painted a number of his signature characters around the harbor across different walls.
Locations: Various locations.

Belgian artist Toon Van Ishoven was putting the finishing touches to his mural for the festival when we stopped by to photograph his festival mural and was happy to pose for a photograph before getting back up into the scissor lift to finish.
Location: Kattendijkdok-Oostkaai 64, 2000 Antwerpen, Belgium
05. Artist Shozy
Hailing from Russia, Shozy is an internationally acclaimed 3D street artist, who honed his skills bombing walls and painting trains in Moscow, later shifting his focus to 3D and anamorphic interventions. For the Tizarte 3D Street Art Festival, he painted not one but two new murals both in the harbor area of Antwerp. The first of the two anamorphic pieces from the artist features a series of boats painted on a circular concrete structure, check out some of the details in the images below. The second equally impressive hands' piece from Shozy is also pictured below.
Collaborative work painted for the festivals 2018 edition, the work sees Belgian artists Ceepil & K.Shit working together on this mural.

We last caught up with Belgian artist Matthew Dawn earlier in the year at work on a mural in Ostend on the Belgian coast. We featured a series of photographs of the artist at work and the finished mural titled 'Blind'.
The Ostend mural painted for the Crystal Ship festival and this new mural addition to Antwerp are both parts of his ongoing series of mural works he calls his Paper Crown series.
Location: Letlandstraat 507, 2030 Antwerpen, Belgium
For Tizarte 3D Street Art Festival, muralist and street artist Gooze from Krasnodar in the south of Russia has painted what is possibly the largest mural to date in Antwerp, Belgium.

One side of the impressive structure that was painted by various artists for the first edition of the Tizarte 3D Street Art Festival, the main piece pictured to the front of the structure was painted by Dutch artist Leon Keer.
This is the first time we have seen this talented artist who specializes in 3D and 4D graffit mural artworks in person. It takes a little bit of work to locate the exact spot in front of the mural where you stand for all the elements to correctly align for the three-dimension effect to be visible.
On the opposite side to the Leon Keer mural is another impressive work from artist Chemis from Kazakhstan, again this mural was painted in 2017 for the Tizarte 3D Street Art Festival,
The third mural at the same location as the Leon Keer and the Chemis murals is this work pictured above which is another mural painted by WD (Wild Drawing) who was invited back for the 2018 edition of the festival.
