The post-Christmas/ New Year period is a traditional period on the streets of London with many abroad or out of the city visiting families and friends over the holiday period.

While most Londoners in the city were probably nursing a New Years' day hangover, London-based street artist Dan Kitchener was up early and taking advantage of the quiet city roads and journeyed over to Brick Lane in East London to paint his first mural of 2019.

We too were up early and were out and about on the streets of Shoreditch with our camera bag, taking photographs of the street artworks we have missed in the last month or so.

While taking pictures we were also on the lookout for somewhere in the neighborhood that was open and serving coffee, not such an easy task on New Years Day. With all our usual spots closed for the holiday, we eventually tracked down a cup at Bulldog Edition At Ace Hotel who always serve a good cup.

Fueled up on caffeine we hit the streets walking over from Shoreditch to Brick Lane photographing the new additions to the streets from stickers to paste-ups and some new roller shutter pieces.

It was along Brick Lane that we caught up with London street artist Dan Kitchener aka DANK making up a wall with a series of ghost lines for a new mural, his first of 2019.

Having made an early start on the new mural Kitchener had finished the mural by the time we returned to the wall a few hours later.

But as the light had already gone, we returned to photograph the completed mural the following day for the final shot of this vibrant new work which the artist has named "Ghost Cities'.
