Mural of Hannah Gluckstein for LGBTQ+ History Month
London over the weekend on our way up Kingsland Road heading to Dalston, East London we spotted two artists at work on what appeared to be a mural. With our camera with us in our bag, we figured we would take a little detour and check it out and see who the artists were.
Turning down onto Orsman Road toward the wall we recognized the faces of the two London-based artists Fipsi Seilern and Erin Holly both busy at work on a new piece.
We have previously photographed both artists individually at work on other projects on the streets of London as well as further afield at various street festivals such as the Crystal Ship in Ostend, Belgium, and the Cheltenham Paint Festival here in the UK.

This new London mural was the first time these two artists had collaborated on a street painting, brought together by a project for Opening Doors London - one of the largest charities providing services & support for LGBT+ over 50’s.Opening Doors London had invited the artists to contribute a mural as part of the annual UK LGBT+ History Month that takes place each year over the month of February.
When we caught up with the two artists mid-afternoon, they had already been at work for a few hours on the mural along a wall on the side of The Glory pub who had granted permission for the mural.
We learned that the two artists were painting a portrait of Hannah Gluckstein, known as Gluck (13 August 1895 – 10 January 1978) a lesbian artist in the 1920s and 30s known for her portraits and floral paintings.
